Adelaide University of Australia has honored Nepali student Shyamsundar Shrestha (22) with the prestigious ‘Bright Spark Award’ for developing an AI-based communication device to support mining and heavy-industry operations.Shrestha and his team created an AI module that enables workers inside mining tunnels to communicate with an AI agent through traditional walkie-talkies using existing analog radio networks—without needing expensive new infrastructure.During the university’s Silver Jubilee event, Shrestha demonstrated the device wearing full mining safety gear. He expressed pride in representing Nepal and contributing to innovation abroad. The university has been awarding young innovators since 2001, helping launch over 1,100 startups through this program.
