Nepal’s Tourism: A Call for Stability and Progress
  • Shradha Chhetri

We most often get questioned whether Nepal is a safe destination to travel to or not. We must not let this impression hold. We cannot afford another setback, now that we have barely begun to stand on our feet again.

The tourism industry in Nepal has perhaps seen some of the most challenging times in history. It has survived earthquakes, a pandemic, and years of struggle. But with resilience, determination, and an uplifting spirit, Nepal has finally started to regain its momentum. However, recent incidents overshadow on all of this progress. As much as these events are concerning, we cannot allow them to undo the efforts invested in reviving Nepal’s economy especially tourism that sustains millions of livelihoods.

The past few years have witnessed the industry experience a positive shift, with new businesses emerging and fresh ideas revitalizing with enthusiasm. Hotels are opening their doors, international brands are making their mark, and tourism entrepreneurs are working tirelessly to attract visitors worldwide. There is a growing competition among tourism professionals which reflects progress as more individuals invest their time and resources in promoting Nepal globally.

Latest increase in tourist arrivals both by air and land has given hope to thousands. This growth is not just benefiting business owners but also countless individuals working in hospitality, transportation, and various service industries. From luxury hotels to small teahouses in remote trekking routes, every part of the tourism chain is finally seeing light after years of struggle.

One of the most common questions we face from travelers is: Is Nepal safe? For years, we have been reassuring them Nepal is welcoming, peaceful, and full of incredible experiences. Whether it’s cultural exploration, pilgrimage, trekking, or adventure tourism, Nepal has consistently proven to be a destination that leaves visitors in admiration.

Nevertheless, the spread of unsettling news can raise hesitation among potential visitors, leading some to reconsider their travel plans. We must come together and reaffirm the fact that Nepal remains a safe and beautiful destination for all.

The concerned authorities and the government are urged in this crucial moment to act decisively to maintain stability ensuring that the situation does not deteriorate again. This is a critical appeal for the continued progress of Nepal’s tourism industry that is not all just about hotels and tour operators—it is the backbone of Nepal’s economy and it keeps millions of livelihoods afloat.

Political unrest and insecurity undermine hard-earned progress, and we cannot afford to let that happen. It is essential that safety, stability, and a positive international image must be a national priority. The government must collaborate with tourism stakeholders to uphold Nepal’s image as a secure, world-class destination.

Against all odds, Nepal’s tourism entrepreneurs remain resilient, continuing to promote the country globally. The road is tough, but our determination remains strong. We simply cannot return to the days of uncertainty, despair, and loss.

Nepal requires harmony within the country and among the government, industry professionals, and international visitors more than ever. We cannot let negativity shape our narrative. We must instead work together to continue making Nepal as a land of adventure and culture.

To the world, we say; Nepal is breathtaking. Nepal is warm and welcoming. Nepal is ready. And we invite you to experience it for yourself. Let us protect our progress, together.
